Screening plan:
Functional movement screening consists of:
* Deep squat
* Hurdle step
* In-line lunge
* Active straight leg raise
* Trunk stability push up
* Shoulder mobility
* Rotary stability
Evaluation plan:
1 Rep max testing
5 RM tests:
* Leg press
* Front Squat
* Bench press
* Shoulder press
* Snatch
Other tests include:
* Sit and reach for flexibility (Anderson, 2009)
* 20m progressive shuttle runs for aerobic endurance (Brewer et al, 1988)
* 10m sprint test for speed (Gore, 2000)
* Repeated effort agility test for agility and foot speed (Gore, 2000) such as the 505 agility test
* Vertical jump and standing long jump for leg power (Anderson, 2009)
Monitoring plan:
*Resting pulse rate (Beginning of each day)
*Rate of perceived exertion using a RPE scale of 6-20 (End of
each training session)
*Height/Weight/BMI/% body fat/ Peak lung flow rate (recorded
monthly)
Other tests include:
*Grip strength for muscular strength
*Overhead medicine ball throws for power
*And 1.5 mile run for aerobic endurance
Progress report:
The athlete has experienced hypertrophy of the trained cross sections of muscle this is due to increases in myofibril numbers, protein content by up to 2.5%, sarcoplasmic volume and an increase in supporting connective tissue increasing overall strength and core stability.
Aerobic muscular endurance has improves significantly due to the increase of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), creatine phosphate (CP) and glycogen concentration to support the energy demand of the movement resulting in the ability to work for longer at an aerobic capacity. This muscular endurance is also attributed to a higher lactate threshold capacity due to the decrease in mitocarbohydratendrial density and and increase in capillerisation.
Metabolic capabilities of both slow and fast twitch fibres has improved with both strength and endurance training with greater number of slow twitch fibres as the sport is aerobic in nature. (Prentice, 2003)
The athletes’ foot speed, co-ordination and agility has improved from that of baseline with the original gross movements becoming more refined this is attributed to the increase in the rate of response of the Central Nervous System (CNS).
